Caged in the Closet

I renamed one of my songs today and changed the lyrics a little.
The song used to be called “Take Me Out of This Place.” Never liked that title; too wordy, long and what is “this place” anyway? The place refers to a state of being but wasn’t conveyed very well. The state of being in the song is depression and loneliness after a break-up. I feel caged in my own sadness without the ability to get out of the house even. The song was written in early 2006.
The song is called “Caged” now. It is in my song lyrics with the photo above. The new title is much more appropriate as well as the lyric change. Anyway, who cares. I didn’t post the song until the change so why bother babbling on about it?

I suppose this all comes from the lack of acceptance I receive from certain family members down here in shitville south Florida. So many homophobic white trash assholes in my family down here! My “southern” family in Guntersville is more accepting of my eccentricities and of gay people than the south Floridians who think they are so damn sophisticated with their GED’s and looking like those people in the Walmart photo emails traveling through the net. My Guntersville family are also educated and don’t think inside a box. Of course there is my Aunt Sherry and grandmother that aren’t so open. One is a sheltered evangelical nut who lived most of her life in a po-dunk town in West Virginia. And my grandmother “Mamma” has an 8th grade education and lived in foster care or with missionaries that abused her then she married an abusive man...point being their ignorance is acceptable.

The term ‘caged’ best depicts my sexuality. I’m caged in the closet. I’m in the closet. Well, sort of...I’m out on Facebook at least in certain comment sections of the news feed as well as my ‘info’ or bio section. But thats a safe place to be gay I suppose since no-one reads bios. I mean obviously people don’t because I am simply amazed at how many conservatives and homophobes are on my friend list; most of which asked to be my friend! And I confirmed!

I am what I am and have already exfriended those family members. There will be issues to deal with in the future. This is personal. I am gay. They project their filthy negative comments regarding gay people into everything they do including forwarding emails, Facebook comments as well as ignorant bumper stickers. If I’m gay and they hate gay people then why shouldn’t I take that personally?
