A Fall of Rain

Precipitation
A rainy evening in Lake Worth
I love the sound of rain
I’ve written about the rain before
I love the quiet of snow
I must write about it more
It may be the absence of people when it rains
the sound drowning out all others
It may be the absence of everything when it snows
the silence swarming inside my ears and head
as if suddenly I’ve gone deaf
and the world continues making a noise
but I cannot hear

I love the clanking sound of large drops
falling hard against the gutters made of aluminum
especially the crashing ruckus onto a tin roof
the pitter patter sound of landing drops
running a mile or more
racing from a cumulonimbus sky
the splatting against the leaves of trees
dancing between the blades of grass
or gently puddling onto a flower pedal
raindrops huddling communing together

I love the peaceful fall of snow
tiny crystals floating through the sky
clumping into flakes
a silent courtship wisps through the air
whispering water droplets frozen into ice
trapped into silence and waiting to melt
to find one another and sing to each other
the songs of spring but until then
I love the hush, the white, the calming

I love the sound of rain
and the quiet of snow
Precipitation brings me
tranquility
